What will happen if I delete the "TooManyTabs (Do Not Delete)" folder using "Organize Bookmarks" tool?

If you delete this folder, all the tabs stored in TooManyTabs will be gone. A notification will appear in the browser, click the reload button will create 6 new empty rows automatically.

How much memory has TooManyTabs saved for me?

It depends on what kind of websites are stored in TooManyTabs. Memory consumption is different for different websites. For example, some heavily scripted websites would require more memory and may lead to memory leak when the sites are kept idle for a long time. Therefore, the actual memory saved still varies even the same number of tabs are stored in TooManyTabs.

What is the difference between TooManyTabs tab (TMT tab) and a Firefox tab (FF tab)?

TooManyTabs help you to save CPU time and memory. When a tab is stored in TooManyTabs, the following will happen:

The page is unloaded and the script will stop running (in contrast with a normal tab); Tab History and scroll position are remembered; When TMT tab is open again, the web page will load from disk cache if it is available. Tab history and scroll position are also restored. (*Only for unpinned tabs)

TooManyTabs 0.4.4 with Tab Kit & Tree Style Tabs

With the help of the author of Tab kit and Tree Style Tabs, both are very popular tab management add-on in Firefox, we have improved the support to these two extensions in TMT 0.4.4. In this version, users can send multiple tabs to TMT directly.

In Tab Kit, users can send a tab group (a set of tabs grouped by Tab Kit) to TMT at once.

This tab group is collapsed, TMT arrow is hidden.

Choose 'Send Tab Group to TMT' to send the whole tab group to TMT at once.

In Tree Style Tabs, users can also send a tab tree to TMT directly.

Click on the yellow arrow to send the whole tree to TMT

What is keeping us busy recently

TooManyTabs 0.4.3 is still in sandbox, yet our team is already working on the next version of TooManyTabs! In this new version, we plan to implement the export and import functions that will allow users to backup and restore their stored tabs anytime!

With this new function, you can directly export the stored tabs to a file. With this file, you can easily transfer your stored tabs to another computer using the import function. You can also restore to an earlier back up if you have lost your tabs.

We would love to hear more feedback from our users on how to improve TooManyTabs. Please help to make TooManyTabs better.

TooManyTabs 0.4.1 released

Today we have released TooManyTabs 0.4.1. In this version, we have removed the limit on the number of tabs you can store in each row. Simply scroll through all the tabs when a row is overflown. For details on all new functions, please refer to our release notes here.

Again TMT 0.4.1 is still in Sandbox and please login to Firefox addon platform before you download it from here. We hope it will become public soon. Any AMO editors reading this? Please review TooManyTabs first! :P

More about TooManyTabs 0.4.0

Beginning from version 0.4.0, TooManyTabs can now run in multiple windows. This is because instead of keeping separate copies of tab on different windows, we have decided to sychronize them in all windows. Therefore, if you add a tab in window A, the same tab would appear on window B. If you remove a tab from window B, the tab is also gone in window A. Technically speaking, by using the Firefox data storage (Places), we are able to track the transactions between different windows, and update the interface accordingly.

In this version, you can also add more rows, rename them or delete them using the options panel. Originally designed to hold some extra idle tabs to save your memory during a session, TooManyTabs has evolved to become a visualization of our web browsing habits. TooManyTabs is not just a a set of relocated bookmarks - in some way it is an overhaul of your Firefox browsing experience!

TooManyTabs 0.4.0 Released (with a catch)

TooManyTabs has been upgraded to 0.4.0, this major upgrade would migrate the tabs to a more stable storage (Firefox Database) and allow users to add/rename rows in TooManyTabs. However, we are now facing some problems with the Firefox Add-ons Platform. To install the upgrade, please download the add-on from this link https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addons/versions/9429#version-0.4.0

Currently the "Download Now" and "See All Versions" links are missing from TooManyTabs Listing Page, and a search on "TooManyTabs" also returns no result from the Platform. We have already reported the situation to the Firefox add-ons editors two days ago and are still waiting for an answer (It's Christmas time!). We hope everything will be fixed soon~

Merry Christmas!

Update (26 Dec) : The bug is resolved by AMO editors today~ You can go to "TooManyTabs" > "See All Versions" and download TooManyTabs 0.4.0 directly.

TooManyTabs 0.3.2 Released & New FAQ

In case you do not know already, TooManyTabs has now been upgraded to 0.3.2! Yet TooManyTabs is still in experimental mode, so Firefox add-on will not be notified of our upgrade, therefore please install the upgrade from Firefox now!

In the version, we have included some new functions, please view our release note here. For example, you can now hide TooManyTabs either using a toggle button or checking the Auto Hide options. To use the toggle button you first need to drag it onto your toolbar. Right click on the Firefox toolbar, click "Customize..." then drag the "Toggle TMT" button onto your toolbar. Once TooManyTabs is hidden, just click on the toggle button to show it again.

Two new sections, " how to use" & "FAQ" are added to our website. We are sure they will answer most of your questions. Still got a question? Email us please!

Why TooManyTabs is Not JUST a Set of Bookmarks

TooManyTabs is designed to give you much more functionality than a set of tab-like bookmarks. It saves browser's memory, organizes tabs and it is easy to use!

When a unpinned tab is restored to the normal tab bar, we do not merely just re-open the URL. The fact is, TMT will try to reload the thing from disk cache (if possible) and the tab state, including tab history and scroll position, will be restored. In other words, TMT tabs are real, working tabs that is merely "frozen". "Freezing" the tab in this way allows all active scripts to be stopped and thus saved memory. The only exception is pinned tabs - every time a pinned tab is restored to normal tab bar, the tab state is not restored to prevent the page from loading outdated content. The program logic is actually very straight forward and is easy to understand.

The next issue is about the number of tabs that you can store in each row. The truth is it depends on how large is your Firefox window. We decide not to scroll the row like Firefox because it is simply too hard to locate your tabs when there are too many of them. We try to make it dynamic so that you can see as many tabs as possible in a reasonable size. The tabs would shrink just like a normal tab and a warning would appear when the window size becomes too small to view all the tabs in the row. I hope our users would understand why we want to implement it this way~

We have receive a lot of suggestions on different features. Our team would consider each of the suggestion carefully and improve TooManyTabs gradually. Thanks for your support.

TooManyTabs granted "100% CLEAN" Softpedia award

TooManyTabs has been added to Softpedia's database and was granted the "100% CLEAN" Softpedia award. Take a look at the award here. Thank you Softpedia editorial team for the award and we are really grateful about it.

TooManyTabs has been in the Sandbox (the review system of Firefox add-on platform) for almost a month. I hope TooManyTabs would be on the public side soon (no longer marked as experimental) so that every one can download it directly~

TooManyTabs 0.3.1 Released!

TooManyTabs 0.3.1 is now ready for download! There are a few features in this upgrade that are tailored for advanced users who would like to have more control on their tabs.

You can now "pin" your tabs on the row of TooManyTabs and they would stay there unless you "unpin" them (all via the context menu).  When you click on a pinned tab, a new instance of that tab opens and the pinned tab will remain on the row. Definitely the best way to keep your favorite sites within reach!

There are more advanced tricks that the pinned tabs can do! Say, to keep a group of frequently visited tabs,  select a new row on TooManyTabs, pop up multuple tabs to the row, then open the context menu and choose "Pin All Tabs in Row".  When you need the group, you can open them all at once. (via context menu > "Open All Tabs in Row"). To improve tab navigation, we also implemented the open-new-tab-adjacent-to-selected-tab feature. You can toggle this option easily in TooManyTabs options menu.  When you open a new tab or restore a tab from TooManyTabs, the tab will open next to your current tab.

TooManyTabs is also now compatible with tab-related add-ons like tabkit, colorful tabs etc. Thank you for supporting TooManyTabs!

TooManyTabs - New add-on launched

I like using Firefox a lot, but it becomes very slow whenever I open more than 20 tabs(which often I do). I start searching for suitable add-ons and soon I realize that most tab-related add-ons only help organizing the tabs and do not address my problem. So I decided to develop TooManyTabs, an add-on that can organize your tabs and save your memory at the same time.

Our team has spent a lot of time on the design of the add-on, trying to make it as usable as possible. The add-on can be downloaded here, it is still listed as experimental and you will need to log in the Firefox add-on platform to install it. I even have a list of features to be implemented in the coming releases. Hope you enjoy using the add-on.
